Estimating the Causal Effects of Education on Wage Inequality Using IV Methods and Sample Selection Models

چکیده
We develop semiparametric and instrumental-variables approaches to self-selection problems in comparisons of wage inequality between educational groups. We propose new estimators to identify the causal effect of college education on scale parameters of wage distributions, using symmetry conditions on the joint distribution of outcome and selection errors, along with kernel weighting schemes. A simulation study indicates that the proposed estimators perform well in finite samples. We illustrate these methods with a well-known study by Card (1995), using college proximity as an instrument for schooling. Estimation results suggest that college education significantly increased the degree of wage inequality in 1976. JEL Classification: C24, C14, C13.

Investigating the Factors Affecting Income Inequality in Iran with Emphasis on Financial Depth and Education
The main purpose of this article is to investigate the factors affecting Iranchr('39')s income inequality in the period 1352 to 1396. For this purpose, causal relationships were first investigated using Hsiao and Toda-Yamamato causality tests. Then the effects of effective factors were estimated using error correction patterns. The results of causal tests in general showed that there is a causal...

The studies show if the wages are assigned by productivity, with wage discrepancy increase, income inequality will be caused by productivity increase. So by estimating total productivity the relation between productivity and income inequality index will be estimated by using econometrics model in Iran during (1974-2009). The results show that not only income inequality has a relation with unemp...
متن کاملTrade, growth and wage inequality in Bangladesh
Using model selection techniques based on out-of-sample predictive ability criterion in a Vector Autoregression (VAR) framework, this paper empirically examines the causal relations among growth, trade, and wage inequality in Bangladesh between 1971 and 2000. There is some evidence of bi-directional causality between growth and inequality and between trade and growth. That growth causes trade a...
متن کاملThe effect of wage growth caused by stock market liquidity on income inequality and poverty in developed and developed countries
One of the significant incentives of the investors to enter the capital market is to earn profits and finally increase wealth. However, one of the most important concerns of the investors while investing in the stock market is the liquidity of the stocks. Thus, the high liquidity of the stock market reduces the risk of non-liquidity of the stock, as well as reduces the cost of capital accumulat...

Standard methods for estimating exposure effects in longitudinal studies will result in biased estimates of the exposure effect in the presence of time-dependent confounders affected by past exposure. In the present review article, we first described the assumptions required for estimating the causal effect in longitudinal studies and their structure regarding various types of exposure and ...
